Anti Collision Devices

(a) the details of Anti Collision Devices sanctioned by Railways, during last three years;

(b) the details of Zones covered with these devices, during last three years;

(c) whether Government has achieved the desired results; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

ANSWER

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS

(SHRI BHARATSINH SOLANKI)


(a) to (d) Anti Collision Devices (ACD) have been provided as a pilot project covering 1736 Route Kms and 548 Locomotives on Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). Based on the experience of the NFR, the specifications and design configuration were revised and the system as evolved was tried on the electrified multiple lines automatic signalling section of the Southern Railway in 2010-2011. Operational and technical problems noticed in Southern Railway trials are being looked into and a new ACD Version- II after successful validation and certification will undergo extensive conformity trials once again before implementation.

ACD works have been sanctioned on 5160 RKms on Eastern, South Eastern, East Central and East Coast Railways during last three years and will be taken up for implementation with` new ACD version-II.

Accidents At Railway Crossings

(a) the details of persons killed during last three years at railway crossings, manned/unmanned, across the country;

(b) the details of compensation paid by Railways, during last three years;

(c) whether Government has taken any steps/measures to construct ROBs/RUBs at these railway crossings, during the last three years; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

Note: The compensation paid in a year does not necessarily relate to the accident/incident happened in that year.

(c) & (d):    Yes, Sir. Railways have decided to eliminate unmanned/manned level crossings by   (i) construction of Road Under Bridges (RUB)/subway in lieu of level crossing, (ii) by construction of diversion road for merger of unmanned level crossing to nearby manned or unmanned level crossings or subway or RUB or Road Over Bridges (ROB), (iii) by closing unmanned level crossings having NIL Train Vehicle Unit (TVU) where roads are non-existent on either side and (iv) construction of ROB in lieu of level crossing.
